UPDATE Mar. 6: MAD Lions, who won both LEC titles in 2021, will join SK Gaming, Team BDS and Astralis in watching the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs from the sidelines.

UPDATE Mar. 5: On the first day of the final week of the 2022 LEC Spring Split, Excel Esports punched their first-ever post-season ticket as an organization.

As a result, SK Gaming was mathematically eliminated from 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs contention and will join Team BDS and Astralis in watching the post-season from home.`

Original story:

Team BDS have been eliminated from post-season contention after their 11th loss of the 2022 LEC Spring Split at the hands of G2 Esports. Team BDS is the second team to be mathematically barred from qualifying for the LEC Spring Playoffs after Astralis, who was eliminated after their 12th loss of the split to Fnatic one day earlier.

Half of the LEC’s post-season fate have now been decided. In addition to the eliminations of Astralis and Team BDS, Rogue, Fnatic and Misfits have punched their tickets to the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs.

Rogue was the first to qualify with their 11th win of the season at the end of week 6 of the Spring Split, and Fnatic and Misfits both qualified yesterday with their respective wins over Astralis and G2 Esports.

G2 Esports will qualify for the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs if Fnatic beats MAD Lions, a reasult which would drop the two-time defending LEC champions post-season odds to a meager 3%.

After purchasing FC Schalke 04 Esports’ franchise spot ahead of the 2022 LEC season, Team BDS were not expected by many to be a world-beaters, but their current standing of 9th place — only one game ahead of 10th place Astralis — is shaping up to not be much better than S04 Esports’ 10th place finish last summer. The young talent on the team is undeniable, but last summer’s Rookie of the Split Adam «Adam» Manaane has suffered a sophomore slump as the top laner for BDS.

BDS still has a chance to play spoiler before the conclusion of the Spring Split. If MAD Lions manage to win their next two games against Fnatic and Team Vitality, Team BDS could be the team to send the two-time defending LEC champion home early on the last day of the split.
