South Built Esports defeated Team Secret with a 2-1 reverse sweep victory in their upper bracket round 1 clash in the VCT 2022 Challengers PH playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 24.
SBE completed the stunning come-from-behind win over TS to advance to the second round of the upper bracket against Naos Esports while also dropping the Valorant Champions 2022 SEA representative to the lower bracket.
Coming off an impressive run in the second week of the group stage where it managed to recover from a 0-3 start in the tournament, Team Secret played like a well-oiled machine in the first map in SBE’s map pick in Bind.
TS, anchored by Jremy’s 20 kills in the first map highlighted by an early ace in the fifth round, pulled away in the second half to deal South Built a 13-7 opening game loss.

That, however, hardly affected SBE as it went toe-to-toe against Team Secret in its map pick in Haven. SBE created some separation after the switch as it took the first seven rounds to turn a tight 7-5 first half lead to move to a game match point, 12-7.
Team Secret though rallied back and secured the next three round to threaten SBE, 12-10. Azys then took over in the game clinching round as he scored a clutch against dispenser and borkum to take the second map and force a deciding Game 3.

It was the same story in the winner-take-all as the two squad went back-and-forth with their own runs. SBE took an 8-4 lead at the half but was quickly erased by TS after the switch to tie the game at 12-all.
SBE, however, came through in clutch as Papichulo secured the 13th point for his squad before he and his teammates scored a flawless round in the extra round to dispatch TS, 14-12.
JA on the Reyna led the attack for SBE with a whopping 29 kills and 314 combat score.

SBE will now face Naos Esports, the same team that beat them twice in a 2-0 sweep in the group stage while Team Secret will have to face the loser between Oasis Gaming and Action PH in the upper bracket.
