Shamir joined the Alpine in May 2021 in partnership with Alpine F1 Team to enhance the visual quality and safety of its race team members.
Shamir is adding a multi-year extension to its partnership with Alpine F1 Team, the company announced Monday.

As Alpine’s optical performance partner for its esports team, Shamir will provide ophthalmic assessments as well as improve gaming performance and endurance with cutting-edge lenses and safety equipment, according to a news release.

The companies’ partnership originally launched in May 2021 when Shamir collaborated with the Alpine F1 Team to enhance the visual quality and safety of its members.

Alpine’s esports drivers and team members will benefit from Shamir’s ophthalmic assessments in events—like the F1 Esports Pro-Championship—as soon as this weekend, during the Le Mans 24 Hours Virtual. Esports team members train up to 8 hours a day on simulators in order to prepare for such online events.

Shamir aids their training by providing sim-racers cutting-edge gaming glasses with enhanced lens technology and increased blue light protection, the release stated.

“Visual and cognitive performance is integral to sim-racing, so this collaboration between Alpine Esports and Shamir is very exciting to improve how our team of sim-racers operate at the screen,” said Cédric Journel, Alpine’s vice president of sales & marketing, in a statement.

Shamir and Alpine plan to use their extended partnership to develop new technologies to improve the visual quality of sim-racing to benefit performance and improve human eye safety, according to the company.

Further, the research and development program will focus on the relation between the brain and eye to lower response timings, ensure less visual fatigue, and improve cognitive abilities.

"After partnering with Alpine F1 Team, becoming the Optical Performance Partner of Alpine Esports represents for us another step in our mission to provide improved visual experience in all areas of activity,” said Shamir CEO Yagen Moshe, in the release. “We will be focusing our (research and development) efforts on developing specialized lens products for gamers and for high digital users, thus expanding our line of lenses personalized and dedicated to particular needs."
