With just weeks to go until Valve’s Steam Deck is finally released, the list of games that will be compatible with the device seems to be growing.
No doubt, there were more than a few people who were disappointed when Valve announced that its upcoming Steam Deck would miss its original December 2021 release window. However, the day is finally nearly here, with the device coming out on February 25. The company has been busy getting things ready, such as updating Half-Life 2's UI, presumably to make it more compatible. Speaking of games for the Deck, it looks as though more titles have been verified, which means they should all be ready to go on release day.
According to a recent report from PCGamesN, more than 100 games are now considered fully playable on Steam Deck. It should be mentioned at this point that the list has not been officially made available by Valve yet, but has been compiled by a number of users, one of whom has pulled the data from SteamDB, a known third-party site that tracks all things related to Steam, and its surrounding operations.
Among numerous others, some of the games that are now allegedly fully compatible with the device include, Dark Souls 3, Death Stranding, Life is Strange 2, Psychonauts 2, and the disappointing Aliens: Fireteam Elite. No doubt that more games are going to be added as time marches on, but with just weeks away until the Deck is launched, it's expected that there will be plenty more titles that will be verified in time, or at least be playable with some future updates in the pipeline. In any case, things seem to be moving in the right direction.
A few other games were verified for Steam Deck a few days ago. At the time, it was suggested that 86 releases were playable on the handheld PC, and while that's still a long way from Steam's database of 50,000 games, it shows that progress is being made, and it seems as though people who have been working to make them compatible are putting in the effort.
With new Linux drivers hopefully extending the Deck's battery, the release day being pushed back may have actually done the device some favors. While it was ideally scheduled for a Christmas launch, the fact that it got pushed back a couple of months has allowed Valve and its partners to work on it some more, tweaking it to make it a better system, and hopefully going the extra mile to make sure as many games as possible are compatible. Let's hope the longer wait pays off.
The Steam Deck is due to release on February 25.
