The Southern Arkansas University Esports Program will be having the first Mulerider Esports Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 24, at 6:30 P.M. at Grand Hall in the Reynolds Center on SAU campus.

Esports is a form of competitive video gaming that has increasingly grown in popularity in recent years.
Esports athletes train in the games they are competing similarly to how traditional athletes practice their sports.
Esports competitions can have prizes ranging from a few hundred bucks to millions of dollars.
The SAU Esports Program was started in the summer of 2018 with interested students and Sandra Martin,, the Dean of Housing, the Resident Hall Director of Honors Hall and the head of the Esports Program.
It started small with only a handful of students and a few computers in Honors Hall.
Since then the program has grown to include hundreds of students competing in everything from Super Smash Bros. to Madden. The program has competition space in Honors Hall and the second floor of the Reynolds building.
The SAU Esports Program has also started recruiting high school students to come to SAU and compete in Esports.
Recently Alex Prado from Junction City High school signed on.
The entire program would not exist without the help of Martin
If you would like to read more about Sandra Martin and what she does at SAU you can do so in this year’s Spring edition of the Magnolia HER Magazine which publishes on April 28.
