One imaginative and creative Pokémon fan showed off their custom keyboard, which features miniature Pokémon Cards encased in the keycaps.
Pokémon fans have plenty of ways to express their fandom, but one player’s creativity led them to replace their keyboard keycaps with miniature Pokémon cards, adding flair to their gaming setup. As one of the biggest franchises not only in gaming but in popular culture, Pokémon‘s merchandising reach expands beyond simple games, but to all sorts of cosmetics, clothing, and even officially-licensed Pokémon face masks.
One type of Pokémon product that has been extremely popular in recent years is Pokémon Trading Cards. Thanks to the rise in popularity of opening Pokémon card packs on social media and overall interest in the cards as a collectible, Pokémon cards have become incredibly valuable and sought-after. The craze has led to some retailers limiting how many packs of cards collectors can purchase at once. Some retailers have been robbed for their Pokémon cards, with thieves hoping to strike it big with a possible rare card. Pokémon card theft is not the only form of illegality, as some online sellers have actually begun selling counterfeit cards. This has prompted online retailers like eBay to impose verification that the Pokémon cards sold are authentic. But Pokémon fans are finding ways to integrate these cards into other products.

One fan, who goes by the name poochie-dingo, shared their custom keycaps on the WASD keys which replace the keys with what appear to be miniature versions of Pokémon cards inside clear keys. Poochie-dingo has the three original starter Pokémon’s final evolutions – Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise – along with the ultra-powerful Pokémon Mewtwo. It also appears that there are some custom keycaps on the F5 through F8 keys, but it’s not clear if these are Pokémon cards as well. Poochie-dingo also says that they were playing Pokémon Yellow using these keycaps, so it appears they were playing on some sort of PC port.
Although Pokémon was meant to be played on Nintendo devices, with Pokémon Yellow originally releasing for the GameBoy, the media has exploded beyond the medium. Of course, the main Pokémon series is still being developed and released on the Nintendo Switch, with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet slated to be the next installment. Only time will tell if and when new Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will become trading cards themselves.
Even though these custom keycaps don’t really make sense for anyone not playing a PC port of the Pokémon series, they are still an interesting creation. No doubt there are plenty of Pokémon fans who would like a whole keyboard in this style. Poochie-dingo did mention that the positive response has prompted them to open their own Etsy store, so other Pokémon fans can get their own custom keycaps too.
