The 24-car grid for 2022’s Formula Pro Series is now complete, including Jarno Opmeer, Bono Huis and Kevin Siggy plus teams from Mercedes-AMG, Red Bull, Redline, R8G and Williams.
The entry list for the 2022 Formula Pro Series racing esports competition has now been revealed, with reigning champions Mercedes-AMG fielding an all-star line-up.
The team will go up against some of the best teams and drives in racing esports, with Romain Grosjean’s eponymous R8G Esports, the Ford Motor Company’s Team Fordzilla, Oracle Red Bull Racing Esports, Williams Esports and the newly Max Verstappen-partnered Team Redline also in the mix.
Following the announcement in April that Formula Pro Series will be returning for this season – using equal V10 naturally aspirated single-seaters with push-to-pass functionality – the full 24-car grid is aiming for a share in a $50,000 prize pool.
Alongside the team and driver news is the confirmation that Laguna Seca will hold the final round on 1st August.
The series kicks off at a virtual rFactor 2 Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on the 9th May, with the feeder series Formula Challenge running on alternate Mondays. Both championships will be live for each round on the Traxion.GG Facebook page and YouTube and Twitch channels.
Bono Huis, who stood atop the dais for every race during the inaugural season, returns to defend the title, which sits alongside his five Formula Sim Racing and Visa Vegas eRace laurels.
He’s joined by a heavyweight in sim racing – Jarno Opmeer. The two-time F1 Esports Series Pro champion and 2022 eROC Race of Champions Sweden winner is a debutant in Formula Pro, but will almost certainly hit the ground running.
Runners up in 2021, Team Redline returns with an unchanged line-up. Now part of the Verstappen.com Racing fraternity, the team will be buoyed by Jeffrey Rietveld’s second place and Kevin Siggy’s third place in the standings last season.
Since then, Rietveld went on to be part of the 24 Hour of Le Mans Virtual and Le Mans Virtual Series-winning Realteam Hydrogen squad, while Siggy recently wrapped up the 2022 DTM Esports crown.
Romain Grosjean‘s esports team returns once again to a top tier racing esports competition with a strong line-up.
New signing for the 2022 season, Marcell Csincsik moved across from the Varga SimRacing team, having taken a maiden GT Pro Series race victory and fourth in Formula Pro last year.
Erhan Jajovski, meanwhile, is a long-established rFactor 2 expert. The former World’s Fastest Gamer competitor led several of the Le Mans Virtual Series races last season and so far this year took back-to-back victories during the Zandvoort round of the ADAC GT Masters Esports Championship.
After freshling agreeing on a naming-rights partnership with Oracle, much like the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, the official esports team will be looking to build on its strong performances in Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup and F1 Esport Series Pro.
The team’s highest-placed finisher in 2021 Dennis Jordan returns for this year and is joined once more by Alex Siebel. Both fought for the 2021 GT Pro Series title, with the latter just edging out the former for the runner-up position.
The independent Danish team, which has just signed a new title partner, will look to punch above its weight this season.
Established rFactor 2 veteran Michi Hoyer is once again in the hot seat, joined by Jernej Simon?i? who won GT Pro Series Season 4 and finished fifth in the 2021 Formula Pro title chase.
Hoyer has been competing, like the Oracle Red Bull Racing Esports drivers, in the 2022 Formula SimRacing World Championship for additional mileage.
The Ford Motor Company’s racing esports ensemble, Team Fordzilla, returns with McLaren Shadow Project 2019 runner-up Nuno Pinto and DTM Esports boot camp qualifier Gianmarco Fiduci.
The official racing team of Premier League football team Wolverhampton Wanderers will enter Formula Pro Series this year with an unchanged squad. Adam Maguire partnered with Formula Sim Racing 2021 Indy 300 winner Liam de Waal.
Williams Esports, the virtual racing sibling to the one of the most successful Formula 1 teams of all time, enters reigning World eX world champion Martin Štefanko alongside rFactor 2 specialist Petar Brljak. After a subdued 2021 campaign, it will be looking for rostrum visits this season.
The German BS+ Competition team showed promise in Formula Pro last year, with Muhammed Patel finishing ninth overall.
This season he’s joined by a new teammate in the form of Ibraheem Khan, who formerly competed for the Zansho Simsport and JOTA entities.
The FIA WEC and 24 Hour of Le Mans competing ByKolles team has partnered with the aforementioned Burst Esport squad once again – the partnership securing a 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual podium at the start of 2022.
The team was promoted into Formula Pro for 2022, as Dawid Mroczek took the Formula Challenge drivers’ title last year.
The official team of the real-world Rocket Motorsport squad, plus relation to 2021 Formula Challenge competing Zansho Simsport, Rocket Simsport returns with Daniel Kiss.
A new teammate will join him, however, with GT World Challenge Asia Esports Championship competitor Ferris Stanley replacing the former GT Pro Series champion Jan von der Heyde.
NetRex Grand Prix is not to be overlooked. Both of its drivers, Collin Spork and Noah Reuvers have been competing the 2022 Formula SimRacing World Championship that uses a variation of the same Formula Pro car.
Spork currently leads that series for the Unicorns of Love team, while Reuvers took the 2021 Formula SimRacing Pro Championship title.
