Developers Steel City Interactive and Ten24 have released new footage from Esports Boxing Club, a boxing game that could rival EA’s Fight Night. The two development teams originally unveiled ESBC in November 2020, promising a next-gen boxing experience for PC and consoles. Details have been released piecemeal in the many months since then, though the project seems to be shaping up nicely.
Given the incredibly long absence of EA’s Fight Night series, boxing fans continue to patiently await the release of an officially licensed boxing game. Somewhat of a spiritual successor to its publisher’s fleeting Knockout Kings franchise, Fight Night first entered the ring in 2004. Fight Night Round 2 and 3 followed in 2005 and 2006, respectively, further cementing the brand’s place on the market as the premier boxing title. Round 4 wouldn’t launch until Summer 2009, with another two-year lull separating it and Fight Night Champion – the final installment in Electronic Arts’ short-lived IP. While rumors of a potential revival made the rounds late last year, EA has yet to confirm or deny whether it will ever revisit the world of boxing.
With the UFC occupying the center of EA’s fighting game interests, the publisher has effectively ceded ground in the boxing arena to any and all competition. Admittedly, few takers have stepped into the ring in recent years but developers Steel City Interactive and Ten24 look ready to rumble. The two companies officially unveiled Esports Boxing Club in 2020, with new details hitting the web every so often. Interestingly, the latest of such updates comes in the form of a ringwalk video starring boxing greats Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol. Check it out in the video linked below (via MP1st):
Visually, Esports Boxing Club looks nothing short of impressive. The attention to detail is pretty astounding, especially since the game is still a work-in-progress with no set release date. A glimpse at the roster on ESBC’s official website indicates the crews at Steel City Interactive and Ten24 didn’t skimp on its list of professional fighters, either. All-time greats such as Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Joe Frazier appear on the roster, alongside newer talent like Mark Magsayo, Diego Pacheco, and Nikita Ababiy.
Arcade fighting games like Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions keep fans busy for a time, yet most have long awaited the return of an experience à la Fight Night. It seems as though ESBC will provide that much and more, evidenced by features like the feint system, customizable career mode, retirement system, and tournaments.
Esports Boxing Club is in development for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox but lacks launch details.
