The HP Omen 16-c0077ng under review does not deliever absolute top performance. Instead, the specs seem to be directed at the largest possible group of gamers who can perhaps do without a few frames in the latest game – and do not want to spend too much.
But that doesn’t mean we have to omit the highlights. The QHD display offers a refresh rate of 165 hertz, good contrast and a reasonable color coverage, but it is not very bright. There is also the 16.1-inch format. The displays look pleasantly large, while the gaming laptop itself remains reasonably portable. The keyboard is backlit in color and can be adjusted individually, but only in 18 different colors and four zones.
The processor is remarkable. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, which is found in many lower-end gaming notebooks, has a 160 W power supply in the Omen 16. This drops to 134 W over a longer periods of time, but this is still significantly more than the competition.
As our review also reveals, power consumption and processor performance remain stable at high levels due to the powerful ventilation system, which protrudes a few millimeters from the case. At the same time, however, the ventilation system is reminscient of a turbine. And gaming is certainly not energy-efficient here.
