GRAND FORKS — The University of North Dakota is looking to provide new opportunities around gaming with a new esports major.
The major will be entirely online and will start fall of 2022.
While it may sound like all fun and games, students will be required to take classes in kinesiology and computer science.
They can also choose to take courses in sports business, public health and communication studies.
A kinesiology professor at UND said it’s a booming career field.

«There’s going to be a need for educators, for coaches, for managers, for administrators, for graphic designers, storytellers, marketers, entrepreneurs, you know, much more,» said Sandra Moritz, professor of Kinesiology at UND.
She said an example of what a job in esports pays is up to $60 per hour… teaching people how to play Fortnite.
And added, we’re only starting to scratch the surface on where the field will go.
