Stormed the Japanese eShop chart before being yanked, apparently
Qureate’s tower-defence RPG Duel Princess is available again on PC following its delisting from the Switch eShop and Steam store last month.
The game – which features a bevvy of anime-style ladies in rather compromising positions – was pulled from the Japanese Switch eShop in January, with Qureate refusing to specify what the issue was. The company did state that it intended to bring it back at some point.
A few days later, it was yanked from the North American and European eShops, too.
According to MediBang, the company which has handled localisation and distribution duties, Duel Princess is available once more – but you’ll need to use an alternative PC storefront like DLsite, itch.io, GameJolt and JASTUSA to download it.
Here’s the PR:
Duel Princess, the viral tower-defense RPG pulled from Steam and the Nintendo e-shop is available again on select PC game stores!
– Duel Princess, the roguelite tower-defense RPG that ranked 7th in the Nintendo e-shop in 2022 before being removed, is available again on select PC game stores.
– MediBang Global Distribution localized and is distributing the new hit title produced by qureate for the English and Chinese market.
– With 50 different types of units with abilities from close-range to long-range attacks and everything in between, players are able to create a team that suits their favorite playstyles.
– This game features an eccentric cast of unique and eye-catching characters, illustrations, and animations.
– All main characters within the game are fully voiced by professional Japanese voice actors.Duel Princess is available DRM-free on select PC game stores.
Duel Princess has been making the rounds in gaming news headlines for having been taken down from Steam and the Nintendo e-shop despite reaching record sales in Japan surpassing those of Among Us, Minecraft, Breath of The Wild, etc. However, MediBang has released the English and Chinese versions on stores like , and more.

"record sales in Japan surpassing those of Among Us, Minecraft, Breath of The Wild, etc"
Yeah, okay. Totally 100% accurate claim there
Matty1988
Hopefully it makes it’s way back to Switch eventually
abdias
@Mando44646 it’s accurate indeed. On the week prior of it’s removal it reached this milestone.
Obviously it is not lifetime sales, it was on the weekly chart.
XenoShaun
Bought this on release and completed it. Didn’t actually know it got delisted until about a week or so ago. Been trying to think what could of caused it to get delisted though, it is very tame in it’s "sexual" side, and the gameplay itself is pretty fun and addictive.
The "punishment" which boils down to clicking a cursor on a clothed girl is likely the cause, but considering you can skip it entirely I wonder why they just don’t remove it. Must be something more to it.
Either way, it’s a shame as the core gameplay was really fun.
nhSnork
Damn, so yet another delisting with barely an advance notice? Hopefully it just meant that the publishers really intend to restore (no pun intended) all the versions including the Switch one. Otherwise, I’d start wondering if this industry doesn’t even know how to capitalize on FOMO anymore.? In all personal irony, back in January I even had the funds for an emergency purchase – but nah, let’s do delisting heads-ups in August when I’m usually broke instead.?
And yes, the game was actually available even on Russian eShop, so I can’t readily imagine what possibly drove it off the store.? Some content license issues out of the blue?
Rika_Yoshitake
@Mando44646 The game was yanked because it was too damn popular and it had a "questionable" mode. My guess is that Someone at CERO realized this after the game was selling like hot cakes on the eshop (It was 2nd place after release).
GoldenSunRM
When did this came out?
I wanted it but never saw it on the eshop the last few times I checked.
When was it removed?
RR529
Wonder what caused it to be removed from Steam? Granted, I haven’t played it, but I see stuff all the time on there that looks just as (and definitely even more) risque.
Tobiaku
@RR529 Valve are inconsistent hypocrites, thats likely why.
TrixieSparkle
Had bought it day one on the US eShop, had a good time. There were some typos in the English script and UI here and there, but chances are they’d already re-assessed their budget a couple weeks before release following the Steam fiasco, so I’ll let it slide.
Not entirely accurate to say it was de-listed from Steam. Similarly to the fate of many visual novels and games as of late with distinctly non-western art styles, it got yanked by a Steam employee before it was even officially released, leaving the publishers to need to change their plan on what to do with their completed game. That’s why I chose to support it sooner rather than later on the Switch, I hate it when developers making games I enjoy just suddenly get screwed over like that.
And despite selling well, topping charts, and people clearly wanting to play/purchase it (a.k.a. buyer’s market), it got pulled from the Switch too? Figures. Hopefully it does, in fact, return for others to enjoy on the Switch, and without being butchered in some way. And I hope more people start considering the non-Steam storefronts. Competition is good for everyone.
Astral-Grain
I’m a bit surprised Nintendo seems to have more risque games than PS or XB, considering they have a history of being more kid-friendly.
This games doesn’t look much worse than Gun Gun Pixie or Senran Kagura Reflexions, both of which are still available in the store and both would make anyone die inside if someone walked in on them playing.
Tobiaku
@Astral-Grain Playstation went woke after they moved headquarters to California.
And as someone who has Gun gun pixies and Senran Kagura reflexions, neither game makes die inside if someone were to walk in on me playing them.
EmmatheBest
Now that it’s back on PC, surely someone should know…why it got temporarily banned by now, right? It seems to be decently popular, and will likely get even more popular after all of this went down…
RiasGremory
@Tobiaku sony went woke cause of their ceos wanted to go that way plus california didnt force them to go that route and mostly everyone in this state hates wokeness.
MARl0
Finished this game on Switch about a week ago. It was…okay. Basically zero strategy to the gameplay itself. It does have a weapon triangle like Fire Emblem, but in practice it’s basically inconsequential when all you have to do is just send out as many units as possible. It’s a pretty brain dead experience strictly from a gameplay standpoint. If you’re just in it for the fan service, then it’s got that at least.
Tobiaku
@RiasGremory I never said otherwise, just that they went woke not long after moving there. Of course its the CEOs faults. Was just ment to answer the guy who found it weird Nintendo were allowing more risque content than Playstation.
Astral-Grain
@Tobiaku do you think it would make them uncomfortable if they walked in on you playing a game that’s basically 100% fan service?
One game has you shooting "pleasure bullets" into giant barely dressed women while the other game has you massaging and squirting water on barely dressed women.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t enjoy what you enjoy, but I would feel pretty awkward if anyone I knew even heard the audio from either of those games, let alone saw what was happening on the screen. That’s just my opinion, of course. Maybe I’m a prude.
PosterBoy
@XenoShaun I think it got removed because it was full of "should of" instead of "should have".
Browny
Is that Yuji Himukai art I spy?
Can’t really find any information on it for some reason.
Tobiaku
@Astral-Grain I don’t know if they find those games uncomfortable, I don’t. They can tell me if they do, but nobody has said anything.
JustMonika
@Astral-Grain or if someone walked in while playing the 18+ version one of the Nekopara volumes. Threesomes with catgirls that look underage, lol. Sony was so strict about Nekopara that they even removed the kissing scenes, lol.
lordzand
Wokeness isn’t a real thing. You guys always use that as an excuse for everything.
Tobiaku
@lordzand You can call them SJW or whatever you prefer to call the type who wants to censor ecchi content. And no, I don’t use it as an excuse for everything.
locky-mavo
What?! I didn’t know it had those
”features” I definitely would have picked it up had I known. I’m really digging Hilde’s design.
Astral-Grain
@JustMonika Lol I’m not complaining exactly, it’s good to have a wider variety of entertainment on gaming devices for all interest types. It’s just funny to see Nintendo going in the other direction and same with Sony now cracking down. They’re opposite of what they used to be, and it’s interesting they care at all because they just make the console, not all the games available on the console.
Some Switch games get away with nudity and adult themes like The Witcher 3, likely because the whole game isn’t based around just adult content and may be easier to fly under the radar. I don’t mind seeing adult themes when it’s mixed in with a good story or good gameplay. I think Trails of Cold Steel III/IV does a pretty good job balancing these.
At the same time, I may not fully enjoy the full-on fan service games because they only focus on one thing, but it’s still silly to remove them when plenty of other games go even further than just racy images in underwear. It’s just inconsistent, that’s all.
SmaggTheSmug
Steam has a game called "Sex with Hitler" in full explicit glory in their catalogue. They better have a damn good reason to delist anything.
Astral-Grain
@Tobiaku There are a variety of reasons an adult game could be de-listed just after releasing, none of which have to do with being «woke.»
Scenario 1: The game was not deemed appropriate by rating boards, such as CERO in Japan shortly after its release.
Scenario 2: The company received enough consumer complaints about the game being inappropriate that they decided to take it down to prevent a PR incident that would hurt future sales.
The reasons for de-listing an adult game have nothing to do with being «woke» or being a Social Justice Warrior. I wish people like yourself would stop using «woke» as a blanket slur.
Dingelhopper
I can understand it being removed from the Switch…but Steam? Steams full of literal porn games so why was this removed? Seems like an arbitrary decision.
That’s westerners for you. Sexual Japanese ecchi spooks them enough into removing it, but sh*tty western porn game with a plot about getting laid is A-Okay. Nice
Tobiaku
@Astral-Grain I called Valve incosistent hypocrites. Playstation are the woke ones. Due to their censorship policies. Its unlikely they want this game unless it gets super censored. I’m not saying all delisted games (or even this one) are due to the woke crowd.
In scenario 2, I would call the complainers woke / SJW.
And I don’t use it as a blanket slur. I use it to describe the type who hates fanservice and wants ecchi content to be censored and stopped from being produced.
twztid13
@Mando44646 they’re most likely talking about the charts in game that track 2 weeks of sales. I can see it doing better for 2 weeks, ofc it wouldn’t be near, any of those games’ release, or overall.
PBandSmelly
I think making the sexual scenes "punishment scenes" is WAY too far. They aren’t looking like they enjoy it, they look upset and uncomfortable. I don’t care if switch has sexual games, good for them, but making a "punishment" mode like this is… rapey.
Astral-Grain
@Tobiaku «Woke» or «Stay Woke» in the last few decades stems from African American English, most recently with regard to the Black Lives Matter movement, particularly in the light of multiple police killings of African American people in recent years. To «Stay Woke» means to remain vigilant, especially for minorities and groups of people that are targeted by others for wanting equal rights.
And now you’re using the same term to describe a video game company that wishes to censor its games. Does that make any sense to you?
If you want to keep appearing as a bigot that doesn’t even know the meaning of the word you keep using, feel free to continue doing so.
twztid13
@Astral-Grain it devalues the term when it’s actually useful.
rant (not meant as a response to this comment, but to explain why i said that): Cancel culture is the same way. Not getting into a political debate on this site, but everyone calls everything "cancelling" today, which makes it mean less in the instances it truly applies. Same w "racism", so It’s not an issue with only 1 political side. The masses see something that’s effective, then use it for everything, so it loses it’s impact.
Joeynator3000
I was going to get this but found out that it just gets super repetitive really quickly, and doesn’t really have any post-game content or anything…Like, sometimes I’m fine with repetitive stuff, but it seems like this wouldn’t last long. :/
Astral-Grain
@twztid13 You are 100% correct.
If that user was describing a company promoting equal rights for minorities, I would understand their misuse of the word as a deliberate way to "run up the mileage" on it and make it less potent.
However, this user seems to just be slapping a "woke" or "SJW" label on anything they don’t like, especially censorship of nudity and explicit sexual content in video games. Its coming off to me like something they heard their parents say and they keep saying it without knowing what they’re even talking about.
SirPrimalform
@Tobiaku SWJs are a bogeyman made up mostly by the right.
Tobiaku
@SirPrimalform Then its a shame companies listen to those bogeymen and censor games unnecessary or let them botcher translations.
Jadamson929

Trailer gets to "Punish the Princess."
Me:"Oooohhh okay I get it, Jesus."
Envy
@lordzand it’s a real thing. I’m gay and I can see "wokeness" from a mile away. The term has lost it meaning cause of crybabies but it’s definitely a thing still
Astral-Grain
@Tobiaku Please confirm.
When a game is de-listed for glorifying punishing/hurting women against their will or when a game is translated poorly because it was originally made in a different language than English … Social Justice Warriors are to blame for this?
How?
twztid13
The quote bubbles & font, etc look like persona 5.
Tobiaku
@Astral-Grain If a game gets content censored and its the type of content SJWs complain about, or a game gets a bad translation and the badly translated / completely altered were things SJWs typically complains about, its fair to assume whoever did it is a SJW or pandering to them.
Edit: adding example in case you are going to ask for examples
Example of botchered translation would for example be Xenoblade 2 «translating» ‘super bikini armour’ to ‘cute bunny armour’ or somethibg similar.
