After already reviewing the Dell G15 5515 (about $1,050 on Amazon) in the Ryzen Edition with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU at the end of 2021, it’s now the Dell G15 5510 Intel variant that has to face our critical eyes.
On paper, the 5510 doesn’t stand a chance against the 5515. After all, the built-in quad-core Intel Core i5-10200H CPU only has half as many cores, and with clock rates of 2.4 to 4.1 GHz, it also runs at a much slower speed. RAM is also half the size at 8 GB, while the graphics solution is the same with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU.
The dedicated graphics result in the gaming laptop performing solidly and delivering sufficient frame rates, even in the majority of recent games when running them at the highest graphics settings. Nonetheless, the test shows that the weaker CPU and RAM configuration has a considerable impact on the Dell G15 5510’s performance compared to the Ryzen Edition – which is of a negative nature, of course.
However, the Intel version doesn’t only lag behind in terms of computing performance. It’s also less enduring when it comes to battery life, it generates a higher noise level under load, and it also has a less stylish design. Dell has also used different components for several other parts, e.g. the display panel. Although the display in our review unit also refreshes at 120 Hz, it had significantly higher response times – definitely not ideal for a gaming device.
Overall, the Dell G15 5510 delivers a solid performance in our review – especially when measured against the low price of around $1,199, e.g. in Walmart’s online store. But compared to the less expensive Dell G15 5515 powered by AMD, the Intel variant doesn’t really stand a chance – which makes it the clearly inferior choice. You can find all further information and measurements in our detailed review of the Dell G15 5510.
