GPD has shared several specifications for the XP Plus, a successor of sorts to the XP. Seemingly, the GPD XP Plus retains its predecessor’s design, which includes a modular controller and a 6.81-inch display. If the latter returns, then the GPD XP Plus will be restricted to 1080p, 60 Hz and 500 nits of peak brightness. GPD has not confirmed whether it will be re-using the XP’s display on the XP Plus, though.
Writing on Twitter, GPD stated that it will release the XP Plus with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200, a 7 nm SoC that includes an ARM Mali-G77 MP9 GPU and one which we have reviewed in the OnePlus Nord 2 and the Xiaomi 11T. GPD adds that the XP Plus will launch with LPDDR4x-4266 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage too, up from slower RAM and UFS 2.1 storage in the original XP.
Moreover, the XP Plus will support 65 W charging, 45 W faster than the XP. Separately, GPD claims that the XP Plus will feature Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, as well as a USB Type-C port that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.2. In other words, the GPD XP Plus will be capable of outputting content in 2K at 120 Hz, among other resolutions. Apparently, GPD had hoped to use the Snapdragon G3X Gen 1. However, it cited high prices and Qualcomm’s ‘known restrictions policy’ for why it chose the Dimensity 1200 instead.
Unfortunately, it remains unknown when GPD will formally announce the XP Plus. Presumably, the company will reveal pricing and availability when it does so, though. For context, GPD priced the original XP at US$341.
