According to Associated Press reports, the American Gaming Association forecasts that 31.5 million Americans will wager more than $7.6 billion on pro football’s championship game set for Sunday.
Americans have never been more interested in legal sports wagering. I posed a recent town hall question to Governor Little as to when Idaho might join the growing list of more than 30 states that give their residents the freedom to wager on sports. He expressed zero interest.
Unfortunately, our state will lose revenue as we travel to Washington or Montana to place our Super Bowl bets. Could we initiate a referendum? No, our Legislature effectively stripped us of that freedom. Idaho’s Legislature espouses freedom, but their actions say otherwise.
