Towards the end of last year, G2 Esports founder Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez made his intentions clear for 2022: “The time has now come for us to take over. We will kill it.”
It’s only seven days into the year, and the unapologetic, brash team is making its mark already. Combining its video expertise with music, G2 has launched its own record label to release its first song, in a high-profile effort to launch the team’s all-new playing jersey, created in partnership with Adidas.
Epic power-metal track “Our Way,” which “recognizes the lessons of defeat as much as it celebrates each victory,” predictably features Rodriguez himself, but he does have some high-profile help. Metal luminaries include:
Rodriguez may say he wants to kill it in 2022, but thankfully and somewhat unsurprisingly, he and his top-notch squad don’t murder the song–it’s actually pretty good.
“Epic power metal is my favorite genre,” Rodriguez explained. “I don’t care about its marketability. It’s coming from the heart like everything else we do.
“20G2 is our year. This song is its anthem.”
Despite the team’s usually cocksure attitude, the song itself proves quite introspective, reflecting on a tough 2021 for the team, during which it failed to qualify for the League of Legends Worlds for the first time in its then-six-year history.
Lyrics include “Like the embers of the flames, we shall rise once again, to the last, we fight forever,” and “We’re taking flight into the flames, hear now the call of our redemption… we’re rising up, we must remain, always as one, stand together.”
The music video for “Our Way,” which launches the official G2 Esports Pro Kit Jersey for 2022, sees Rodriguez opening a portal with a sword made of shards influenced by the design of the jersey. Sami, the G2 Esports mascot unveiled in July 2021, also makes an appearance in the video–a character who features as an easter egg on the jersey, within the holographic.

A number of G2’s players, including Rasmus “Caps” Winther, Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, Nikola “NiKo” Kova?, and Zainab “zAAz” Turkie, also feature in the video wearing the new shirt, as they’re hunted down by a “Shadow Demon” after they steal an ancient artifact.
“We are the number-one esports organization in the world,” Rodriguez concluded. “Now, we’re setting the stage to entertain everybody beyond just competitive video games. This is the beginning of an insane, fun ride.”
“Our Way” by G2 is now available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Pandora, and Deezer, while it will also be made available on rhythm-based games such as VR hit Beat Saber. Meanwhile, the jersey is now available to buy online; the G2 Adidas Pro Kit will extend to a full tracksuit and supporter jersey, which will be made available in the coming weeks.
