The original Chuwi LarkBox X launched in February of this year with the U-series Ryzen 7 3700U CPU, 8 GB of RAM, Intel 7265 Wi-Fi 5 wireless, and 256 GB of storage for $440 USD. The manufacturer will soon be updating the model with the faster H-series Ryzen 7 3750H and AMD RZ608 Wi-Fi 6 wireless in the next few weeks.
When compared to the Ryzen 7 3700U, the Ryzen 7 3750H can offer up to 10 percent faster single-thread and multi-thread performance albeit at higher power demands. Thus, while performance will indeed be slightly faster with the updated model, the unit will also be more power-hungry in the process. Integrated GPU performance should also be slightly faster gen-to-gen.
Other updates from the original LarkBox X include a type-C port with data transmission and proper DisplayPort support.
While the CPU swap is nice, it’s somewhat disappointing that Chuwi won’t be updating to the significantly faster Zen 2 Ryzen 4000U series or 4000H series instead. The recently released Beelink SER4, for example, is a perfect example of what the Ryzen 7 4800U is capable of while maintaining a competitive price point against the Intel NUC series.
The manufacturer has yet to announce a launch price for the newer LarkBox X, but we expect it to retail for under $500 USD complete with RAM, storage, and a licensed copy of Windows 11.
