The Chinese technology conglomerate Tencent files a new trademark for its gaming department, hinting at the development of a new game IP.
Tencent Games has been in charge of multiple gaming acquisitions due to investments and subsidiaries focused on online gaming, establishing its parent company as one of the largest video game companies in the world. With many projects rumored to already be in the works, Tencent has purchased the trademarks and copyright for another game title with mysterious ties to another franchise.
Tencent has previously claimed other video game developers to tackle co-op shooter projects with Remedy Entertainment, and its new trademark hints at yet another AAA gaming project albeit under a separate gaming genre to attract a wider range of potential gamers.

"ORIGIN OF THE WILD" is under file for trademark by Tencent Holdings Limited, and has claimed ownership under specific sections including "computer game software" and "online game services." Despite very few details surrounding this purchase, it has been theorized that Origin of the Wild is the title of an upcoming new game/IP. This reveal comes at a time when a Tencent subsidiary is apparently developing a new AAA game, creating a brand-new gaming world using veteran talent for the first of many future projects. Trademarks for "Origins of the Wild" have been filed in Canada and New Zealand at the end of February 2022, with more likely to be listed for review in the coming weeks and months.
Of particular note is the similarity of the title to the influential Breath of the Wild game. Published and released by Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda franchise is still owned by the separate gaming behemoth and doesn't look likely to sell. Despite the close connection, it is unlikely to be another entry in the Legend of Zelda series, but it may cite the game as a design influence for the currently undisclosed game. Therefore, games that are currently being developed appear to still be in pre-alpha stages until newsworthy content has been properly released.
A lot of Tencent's current investments are tethered to mobile developers, and gaming news associated with upcoming projects has been kept well hidden. Occasional hints at releases have been focused on localization and hardware, such as the supposed upcoming Tencent PC console handheld to rival the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck.
2021 saw Tencent acquire a lot of notable game studios to add to the tech conglomerate, and the purchase of this new trademark has caused a stir. With so many upcoming projects looking to be on the way and Tencent being cautious with game announcements, it is currently unclear which of its trademarked IPs will be finished.
