Team Vitality have defeated Excel Esports 3-2 in the first round of the Losers’ Bracket at the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs. Vitality moves onto the second round of the post-season lower bracket to play against G2 Esports. Excel has been eliminated from LEC title contention.

Game 1 saw Excel take the first match of the series — executing clean engagements throughout the match. Finn «Finn» Wiestål was noted for his very involved and aggressive performance with Irelia, while his teammate Patrik «Patrik» Jír? had a very clean 6/0/6 performance on Jinx.

Vitality managed to grab the second game of the series — a thirty-minute affair that was initially in Excel’s favor. Vitality managed to win the macro-game in Game 2, however, and secured most of the neutral objectives throughout the match. Game 2 standouts were Barney «Alphari» Morris and Labros «Labrov» Papoutsakis, with both players being involved with the majority of Vitality’s kills.

Game 3 was a closer affair than the first two matches, with the teams holding a small gold differential throughout the match. Mihael «Mikyx» Mehle proved to be an important win-factor for Excel in this match — using Nautilus to create several favorable engagements for his team. Though the match was close, Excel’s stronger late-game decision making allowed them to pick out Vitality’s carries and win the match.

Vitality came back with a vengeance in Game 4 — staying in control through most of the match, to secure the fastest win of the set. Oskar «Selfmade» Boderek and Alphari were both standouts in the game: Selfmade showed off a very polished Volibear to secure several important kills, and Alphari made good use of Gnar to effectively split push throughout the game.

Game 5 was perhaps the best game Vitality has had of the entire Spring Split — effectively playing together as a team, with each player showing off strong individual performances. Vitality will move on to play against G2 in their next match of playoffs.
