Rumor: GTA+ Subscription Service May Be Making its Way to PC – The Nerd Stash

GTA+, Rockstar Games’ newest subscription service for GTA Online players, may be expanding beyond its next-gen console scope over to PC. The rumor comes through the wording of a new job opening over on the official Rockstar careers site, specifically for the GTA+ Subscriptions Product Manager role.
Rockstar Games Job Opening GTA+ Subscription Service PC
As the job title implies, this job is specifically for managing the team’s GTA+ subscription service across several platforms and ensuring quality for its release. This normally wouldn’t be anything to take a closer look at, though reading through the job’s “What We Do” section reveals the interesting part regarding PC. Specifically, the following bullet point:
The Subscriptions Product Manager will help drive the program and product strategy through implementation of features across our own storefronts on the web, our PC application, and in-game stores as well as our stores with gaming partners. The product also involves a self-service marketing and content management platform for all contributing stakeholders, providing an enriched end-to-end consistent and customized buy experience for our customers driving customer acquisition, retention, and YOY revenue growth.”
While this wouldn’t come as a surprise to most, it is strange to see the team pushing this service harder given the extremely negative reception towards the GTA+ subscription service thus far. Fans have been critical regarding the feature set and the overall lack of value given the subscription’s price, so expanding the program to other platforms may not yield a much better reception. That’s without mentioning the rampant issue of hackers and modders on the PC edition, potentially lessening the desire for a subscription further.
With all this being said, this could merely be poor wording on the part of whoever wrote up the job opening on Rockstar’s site. It’s entirely possible that the PC version of the GTA + subscription service isn’t planned, though knowing Rockstar I would guess it is in the works. Still, unless we hear anything official from the team, take this with a grain of salt.
