GPD has dropped a few hints about the Win Max 2, another upcoming gaming handheld to add to the XP Plus. Teased on Chinese social media, the Win Max 2 will rely on Intel’s latest Alder Lake architecture. Specifically, GPD will offer the Win Max 2 with the Core i7-1280P, a 28 W part that has 14 cores, 28 threads and an Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EUs iGPU.
Theoretically, the Win Max 2 should have a CPU edge over the Steam Deck, although it will be interesting to see how the pair compare in GPU heavy tasks. Additionally, the Win Max 2 will be available with 32 GB of RAM, a 10.1-inch display and two M.2 drive slots. For context, the Win Max has an 8-inch display, slightly smaller than the 8.4-inch one in the various ONEXPLAYER models.
Unsurprisingly, the Win Max 2 will be rather substantial for a handheld at 228 x 160 mm. Purportedly, GPD will offer 1200p and 1600p display options, plus 1 TB and 2 TB memory configurations. Like the original Win Max, the Win Max 2 will feature a QWERTY keyboard and game controls. Presumably, these will be more spacious than on the Win Max, thanks to the Win Max 2’s wider chassis.
Currently, it is unclear when GPD will reveal the Win Max 2. Supposedly, the device will arrive with a 4G module as well, plus two Thunderbolt 4 ports and support for 65 W charging. Somehow, we doubt that the Win Max 2 will land for anywhere close to the Steam Deck’s US$399 starting price, though.
