How the turntables.. BOOM Esports stood victorious at the GAMERS GALAXY Invitational Series Dubai 2022 after defeating several regional favorites.
For the uninitiated, BOOM Esports defeated Team Secret, Nigma Galaxy, OG, Tundra Esports, and the legendary Team Spirit. Now that’s an achievement in our books if we have to say so ourselves. BOOM walks away with hefty winnings, but more importantly, SEA is back on the Dota 2 map.
The GAMERS GALAXY Invitational Series Dubai 2022 managed to gather nine of the strongest teams in Dota Pro Circuit for a single LAN tournament. Frankly, we had low expectations for BOOM Esports heading into this grand showdown. After all, there are several DPC Regional Final winners in the selection.
For instance, Team Spirit comes into mind when we discussed potential winners. After all, they are arguably the hottest team right now, following their miraculous run at the International 10 (TI10). Not to miss out on team OG and Tundra Esports, DPC WEU Regional Finals participants. Even the most formidable team from North America, TeamSoloMid, made an appearance, and pose quite the challenge.
It wasn’t an exaggeration that BOOM Esports deserved the victory at GAMERS GALAXY Invitational Series Dubai 2022.

Of course, BOOM Esports is already a champion among champions at the Dubai Invitational. They concluded the DPC2021-22 SEA Division 1 with first place and subsequently won DPC SEA Regional Finals too.
BOOM’s game plan revolved around well-formulated drafts that fit the meta. They weren’t unorthodox or mind-bogging by any means, but BOOM played it effectively. In hindsight, developing their playstyle and draft versatility paid off greatly as BOOM remains relevant even after the new Dota 2 Patch 7.31 released.
Yet, in most scenarios, the consistent performance would mean BOOM’s roster is flawless, and a roster change is out of the question. However, despite the phenomenal results, BOOM still feels the need for change.
After BOOM won Division 1, they decided that a roster change during hiatus before DPC SEA Regional Final was necessary. The move to kick Justine Ryan Evangelista “Tino” Grimaldo after achieving such a fleet received some backfire, calling BOOM out for poor ethics.
However, there is simply a good reason to replace the hard carry player. The hard carry role often comes with the best privilege in the game, space, farm, and your teammates’ support. Yet, Tino’s impact in every match just doesn’t feel assuring, especially since the mid-player, Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer has frequently outpaced his teammate. BOOM likely realized they are better off testing the waters with an alternative hard carry player, who can provide better late-game assurance.
Thus, while it might seem cold for BOOM Esports to kick their player, who contributed to their victory at DPC2021-22. The early move is important for BOOM to quickly adapt themselves to their latest addition, Souliya “JaCkky” Khoomphetsavong.
BOOM Esports has had a series of fortunate encounters since their new roster formed. Taking a trip down memory lane, BOOM didn’t qualify for DPC2021-22 Division 1 bracket and was supposed to play the Division 2. Yet, somehow or rather, Omega Esports’ match-fixing scandal disqualified the team from Division 1, leaving the empty slot for BOOM’s debut. With this opportunity, BOOM was able to showcase the absolute dominance that their DPC2021-22 roster was capable of.
Frankly, the series of achievements weren’t enough to convince fans that BOOM Esports is TI-worthy. After all, BOOM Esports has never qualified for TI till now, and they rock a relatively new line-up. The GAMERS GALAXY Invitational Series Dubai 2022 turned out to be BOOM Esports’ optimal stage to debut their strength.
Concluding BOOMs flamboyant victory, one thing’s for certain. The Dota 2 competitive scene now acknowledges the SEA representative as a force to be reckoned with. It’s been a long time coming for a region that has both Division 1 and Division 2 teams packing some serious punch.
Should the next Major takes place, BOOM can at least expect a bandwagon of new fans cheering on their side. After all, there are still formidable opponents aching to face BOOM Esports, such as PSG.LGD, Gladiators, and Team Liquid. Plus, the recent Team Spirit we watched at the Dubai Invitational is not their complete roster, so it wouldn’t be fair to consider this as the TI10 champion’s loss.
