Six projects across the Alle-Kiski Valley have received funding totalling over $600,000 from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund.
Nearly $9.4 million was disbursed to communities in Allegheny County in this year’s round, announced Wednesday. In the Alle-Kiski Valley, the following projects were named:
• West Deer Township Volunteer Fire Company #3 received $250,000 for their fire station relocation project.
• Harrison received $100,000 for the Harrison Property Recovery Project to help clear the titles to 107 abandoned properties that have accumulated delinquent taxes.
• Harmar received $45,000 for the Harmar Highlands Woods pump station and force main replacement, and Cheswick received $100,000 for a traffic signal replacement. These projects fall under the Allegheny Valley North Council of Governments.
• Fawn Township received $50,000 for the Thompson Road paving project.
• West Deer received $59,411 for the Bairdford Park development project.
Under a program established in 2007, portions of casino slots gambling revenue collected by the state is distributed each year by the Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority. Municipalities submit applications to fund specific projects that will enhance local economic development.
State Sen. Lindsey Williams, D-West View, represents the 38th Senate District, which includes the Allegheny County communities in the A-K Valley. A total of $2.4 million was distributed throughout the 38th District.
“State investments like these are vital to the continuing economic growth and revitalization of our region,” said Williams in a statement. “Projects that will rebuild our roads, upgrade critical water infrastructure, support our fire and EMS departments, preserve natural resources, and improve access to recreation are huge priorities for me, and I’m happy to have advocated for their funding.”
