The release date for Warhammer 40K Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters has been revealed and the time to gather the Grey Knights is almost upon us.
The Space Marines will soon be taking the field once more, as the release date for Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters on PC has been revealed. Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate is an upcoming tactical RPG game with strategy elements, where the player controls members of the Grey Knights – the chapter of the Space Marines that deals with the servants of Chaos.
The main foes in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate are the Plague Marines, who serve the Chaos God Nurgle, the lord of pestilence. The servants of Nurgle have unleashed a mysterious plague, called the Bloom, which is corrupting the denizens of the world. The player controls a group of Grey Knights aboard their Battleship, who have just returned from a long campaign and are immediately thrown into the task of dealing with the Bloom and the Plague Marines. It’s up to the player to control their troops in small-scale battles, using the incredible might of the Grey Knights against the servants of Chaos, while also managing their ship, and racing to put down the Bloom whenever it appears.
Developer Complex Games recently held a hands-off preview event for Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate for the press, where it was announced that the game would launch on PC (via the Epic Games Store and Steam) on May 5, 2022. It was revealed during a Q&A that there are currently no plans to bring Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate to other platforms. Complex Games has also revealed that Andy Serkis will be providing his voice to the game.
The gameplay loop of Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate is similar to that of the XCOM series, with the player balancing the base management and selecting between missions, with controlling squads in turn-based battles. Unlike the XCOM games, where the combat is heavily focused on using ranged weapons and cover, the Grey Knights in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate are incredibly effective at close range and favor a more aggressive gameplay style. The destructible environments in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate also allows the player to crush the enemy using the level itself.
The Warhammer 40K universe is the perfect choice for a game like this, with the large and small-scale conflicts affecting each other, and the highly-customizable nature of the character’s appearance and gear matching how real-life players treat their own armies. There have been a number of games that have used the Warhammer 40K license over the past few years, but few seem to fit it as well as Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate.
Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters will be released for PC on May 5, 2022. Pre-orders for the game go live today.
