Esports commentator VikkiKitty is the latest in a strong of former Overwatch League casters who have not been contacted at all since last season.
As the upcoming season approaches, casters and commentators have been tweeting that the team behind the Overwatch League hasn’t reached out to them at all. VikkiKitty explained that she not only didn’t receive an offer to commentate the 2022 season but has experienced a «lack of communication» since the previous season, which is the most frustrating part for her.
VikkiKitty has been a part of the Overwatch League cast since 2017.
Fans of VikkiKitty and the Overwatch League responded with confusion and anger at the news. Some called it «bullsh-t» while others pointed out that VikkiKitty was the only female Overwatch League talent at the time, which wasn’t a good look for Activision Blizzard after the ongoing sexism allegations. Caster Jack Wright said that the «complete lack of communication» isn’t fair.
VikkiKitty isn’t the first to come out with sentiments against the Overwatch League. Sideshow and Bren announced that they did not come to an agreement with the Overwatch League back in January, ending their four years as Overwatch League broadcasters.
«We’ve been there since day one, called some incredible moments, and made the broadcast better where we could,» Sideshow said.
Then Andrew Rush came forward in early March to say that he hadn’t received an offer for the 2022 season. Just like with VikkiKitty, he found the lack of communication to be the most frustrating part. He had worked for Overwatch esports since 2015.
Caster DoA decided to speak out against the Overwatch League team as well. According to the caster, he told Overwatch League that he wanted «full season or nothing» after the 2021 season ended and was not given an offer. But just like Tempo and VikkiKitty, DoA was given the «cold shoulder» instead of a discussion or any answers.
In 2021, Activision Blizzard was acquired by Microsoft. That process included Overwatch League being outsourced to a different production company. This definitely could have caused some confusion and mayhem on the Overwatch League team’s side but it’s still uncertain why so many prominent casters and commentators have been ghosted for so long.
