More events are planned to head to the east coast

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), along with Team Liquid, have revealed plans on Wednesday for a 14,000 square foot esports theater, named District E Powered by Ticketmaster.
With plans for a competitive stage, practice center and a restaurant and bar, MSE and Team Liquid are aiming to bring over 200 esports events to the venue per year, according to a press release. They also plan to foster the amateur gaming community in the Washington Metropolitan region and will establish an office for Team Liquid on the east coast.
The venue is set to be adjacent to the existing Capital One Arena at Gallery Place in downtown Washington D.C, where the NBA’s Washington Wizards and the NHL’s Washington Capitals make their homes.
According to Zach Leonsis, President of Media & New Enterprises, in a press release, the time was right to build an esports center as a central hub for the Mid-Atlantic. They do so with the belief that developing grassroots level connection within their local community is the next natural step for esports.
“We are so proud to build a best-in-class esports venue featuring our globally recognized esports team, Team Liquid, our back-to-back NBA 2K League Champion, Wizards District Gaming, our leading Caps Gaming NHL initiative, and much more to come in the future,” Leonsis said.
Team Liquid CO-CEO and Owner, Steve Arhancet, is equally excited about supporting esports on his home turf. Having lived in the DMV for a number of years, Arhancet considers it “an honor to reconnect with the community.
I am looking forward to working alongside and supporting our local organizations, universities and athletes to bring together fans across Northern Virginia, Maryland, D.C. by providing them with a genuine and unique esports experience.”
The competitive stage is planned to feature a public-facing 150+ person venue. Meanwhile, the practice facility will allow teams to bootcamp ahead of events. The entire District E venue is planned for a Fall 2022 opening.
