April’s free PlayStation Plus lineup is available now, but some PS Plus subscribers are disappointed with the games offered by Sony.
PlayStation Plus will soon offer users a choice between 3 tiers. The Essential tier works the same way as PS Plus in its current form, but the Extra and Premium tiers will give players access to hundreds more games. PS Plus Premium also comes with other benefits, such as being able to download PS1, PS2, and PSP titles, and play PS3 games via cloud streaming.
Sony will continue to offer free games every month, although that number will get reduced to two each month instead of three. April’s PlayStation Plus lineup was announced last week, and it includes Hood: Outlaws & Legends, Slay the Spire, and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. All three games are now available for subscribers to claim.
Some users on the PlayStation Plus subreddit are discussing their disappointments with the games offered this month. PlayStation Plus is required to play online multiplayer on PS4 and PS5, and one user wonders if people will subscribe to PS Plus if multiplayer is not tied to the service. However, many players state that they do not play online games, sp they were especially disappointed with this month’s lineup. It should be noted that this thread was specifically created to discuss criticism for April’s free PS Plus games, so negative opinions may dominate most of the conversations in this post.
One user thinks that PS Plus is still worth it, and the exclusive discounts make up for the subscription cost. On the other hand, some players claim that they will reconsider subscribing to PS Plus once the revamped tiers are introduced. Further down, some users are discussing if it’s even justified to complain about games given out via PS Plus due to its reasonably low price.
A few users also share their specific problems with April’s PlayStation Plus lineup, with many calling Hood: Outlaws & Legends a dead multiplayer game. Additionally, some members claim that these games are too old and were previously available for extremely low prices.
Some subscribers probably feel that the PlayStation Plus revamp will negatively impact the quality of games that are given out as a part of the Essential tier. For example, Sony offered Final Fantasy 7 Remake to PS Plus subscribers in March 2021, but similar games may only be added to the Extra and Premium tiers once the change rolls out. The same scenario presumably happened with Games with Gold, as the quality diminished as Microsoft shifted focus to Xbox Game Pass.
