PlayStation has come to the aid of new gamers and experienced players alike, releasing a list of useful terms that underpin the world of gaming.
The official PlayStation website has released what it calls "PlayStation's ultimate list of popular, gaming-related terms." This PlayStation list covers anything and everything that a person may come across when playing video games.
The gaming community is a big one, one that may feel overwhelming at a glance. As a result of the industry's size and large variety of games, first time players can often be bombarded by gaming jargon that they struggle to get their head around. Understanding this gaming dialect can be important, especially as gaming language spills over into our vocabulary.

The list of gaming terms is extremely extensive, clocking in at 109 words in total, each with its own definition. The list contains a wide variety of descriptions, and there are computing/hardware terms to help people better understand consoles. There is also popular gaming slang that offers people an insight into gaming language. Whether it be finding out what "Git Gud" (a term originating from FromSoftware fans) means or understanding what the SSD does in a console, "PlayStation's ultimate list of popular, gaming-related terms" has it covered. The list itself is presented very nicely, with each letter having its own box, along with occasional images of popular games dotted down the list.
The list is a multifaceted piece of content. On one hand it can offer an experienced gamer a lighthearted laugh, with definitions for terms such as "Noob" and "Camping" (camping referring to the controversial multiplayer tactic of sitting in a strategic spot and picking off enemy players). On the other hand, it can provide a helping hand to newcomers with getting to grips with the dialect.
While this odd, yet welcome release from PlayStation is something for people to enjoy, players would likely have preferred an update on the company's upcoming releases. The closest game on the horizon is the highly anticipated God of War: Ragnarök. The sequel to the 2018 Game of the Year has already been delayed from its initial 2021 release window, though thankfully it does seem to be on track for a 2022 launch.
Fans are hoping for a State of Play presentation soon to reveal a specific release date for God of War: Ragnarök. Looking at when the company has held State of Play events in the past would suggest that one may be happening in the next month or two. Players are likely hoping that a State of Play is coming sooner rather than later, with the year quickly passing by and still no word on a release date for the next big thing from PlayStation.
