PC Moves Up To #11 In National Polls, Bynum Named BIG EAST Player of the Week – WLNE-TV (ABC6)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  The Providence College men’s basketball team is ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 11 in the most recent Coaches Poll.  Both polls were released today (February 7).  The Friars, who entered the polls on December 20 at No. 22/23, have been ranked for eight consecutive weeks.  The Friars were ranked No. 15/15 in both polls last week and climbed in this week’s polls after two road victories.  The Friars won at St. John’s (86-82) on February 1 and also earned a win at Georgetown (71-52) on February 6.
The Friars (20-2, 10-1) are off to their best start to a season since 1972-73 when they posted a 20-2 mark through the first 22 games.  Providence has posted Quad 1 wins at Wisconsin, at home versus Texas Tech, at UConn, at Xavier and at home versus Marquette.  The Friars have a NCAA NET ranking of 26.
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, February 12 versus DePaul at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center at 6:30 p.m. on FS1.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  It was announced today (February 7) that junior Jared Bynum (Largo, Md.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.  Bynum helped the then No. 11/11 Friars (20-2, 10-1) post a 2-0 mark last week with two victories at St. John’s and Georgetown.  
Bynum averaged 25.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting 11-13 (.846) from three, 8-8 from the free-throw line and 16-23 (.696) overall from the field in the two wins.  Bynum recorded a career-high 32 points, including 27 in the second half, in the Friars’ 71-52 win at Georgetown on February 6.  He was 7-8 from three and 11-15 from the field overall.  He also had five steals.  In the team’s 86-82 win at St. John’s on February 1, Bynum scored 19 points and was 4-5 from three with four assists.
