Northwood University’s Esports Team added another feather in its cap as it recently won the NECC Samsung Winter Invitational Championship.
The three-day virtual tournament culminated with Northwood winning the championship final Sunday, Feb. 27. Team members included Benjamin Park of Fairfax, Virginia; Braden Dippel, of Oglesby, Illinois; Jeffrey Tomaszek, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; Tyler Tidwell of Auburn; and Hunter McMillan, of McLeansville, North Carolina.
The team defeated Baker University, Purdue University, University of Houston, University of California Davis and Southern New Hamphshire University, as well as Carleton University in the grand finals.
“The team has been experiencing some serious growth in terms of talent,” stated Coach Cody Elsen. “Each semester, we infuse new talent into the program while students continue to grow and form their craft. I think the major reason for our success is the drive our students have to be great.”
The NECC Samsung Winter Invitational Championship win is the ninth championship Northwood Esport’s Team has won this academic year.
