A forecast of gaming industry revenue foresees highly anticipated Modern Warfare 2 sales to grow console gaming revenue significantly in 2022.
There are a ton of factors that have contributed to the growing anticipation for Modern Warfare 2. Whether it’s the players’ disappointment with Vanguard or a return to the modern era, the upcoming Call of Duty title is perhaps the most anticipated game in franchise history.
It turns out, that a Global Games Market Report update also predicts Modern Warfare 2 sales to have a major impact on overall console gaming revenue in 2022.
The report shared a ton of interesting information that is mainly positive for the gaming industry. Overall gaming industry revenue continues to grow in 2022 and is estimated to increase by +5.4% from 2021.
You may be surprised to learn that mobile gaming generates the most revenue per platform in the world. Despite the forecast stating that mobile games “will account for 51% of the global market,” some highly anticipated console releases should close the gap significantly by the end of 2022.
Mobile gaming remains by far the biggest gaming segment by revenue in the world, per the latest report from analytical firm Newzoo.
Their report also expects console gaming revenue will increase this year due to hype around #ModernWarfare2 and other fall releases. pic.twitter.com/9g0KrFpiwg
Console games are expected to “generate $56.9 billion in 2022, growing +8.4% year on year.” These are positive signs for console gamers and the report points toward premium releases like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as a major factor for growing numbers.
CoD fans have always adored the Modern Warfare series that produced some of the most memorable titles in the franchise. Therefore, it is easy to see how sales for the highly anticipated game will lead to growth within the gaming industry.
While Modern Warfare 2 is expected to be a home run, the report also states, “The ongoing console performance and fervor around live-service games like Fortnite, GTA Online, and Call of Duty Warzone,” are a major factor in producing positive console numbers from year to year.

Now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially confirmed, players are desperate to see what Infinity Ward has cooked up for 2022. Industry insider Tom Henderson has revealed the potential gameplay reveal date and it’s soon.
The highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, was officially announced after being shown to NFL Draft prospects at the end of April. While there are plenty of leaks and rumors, we haven’t seen any gameplay yet.
Industry insider Tom Henderson has leaked a ton of MW2 information so far and has now leaked the potential reveal date for Modern Warfare 2, as well as the multiplayer reveal later in the year.
According to Tom Henderson’s sources, Modern Warfare 2 is expected to be revealed sometime in early June, with the multiplayer reveal rumored for August.
Henderson claims that early June’s initial reveal is “expected to be in the form of a standardized reveal trailer,” with “campaign footage.”
Then, campaign gameplay is expected to be shown “at an event when E3 was meant to be,” which would line up with June 9’s Summer Games Fest 2022. This is all just rumors and speculation for now, so we’ll just need to wait and see what the Summer Games Fest has in store.

While the Modern Warfare series’ campaigns are held in high regard, it’s multiplayer that keeps most CoD fans coming back year after year. Henderson’s sources have also suggested that Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer will be revealed in August, but this is far from guaranteed.

Warzone players have long been begging for a firing range, and a new leak claims it could finally arrive with MW2 and Warzone 2.

Call of Duty: Warzone fans have been begging for a firing range to test their weapons and loadouts, and according to leaker TheGhostOfHope, Modern Warfare 2 will have a firing range which could also arrive in Warzone 2.
With Modern Warfare 2019’s Gunsmith system becoming the standard, Warzone players can completely transform their weapons like never before. But this opened up a new issue, where players had no idea which set-ups were best and had no place to test them out.
Because of this, Warzone players have been begging Raven Software to add a firing range to test their weapons similar to those seen in Advanced Warfare and WWII.
A Warzone firing range might actually become a reality, as established Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope claims one will arrive with Modern Warfare 2 later this year.
After months of leaks and rumors, Call of Duty finally confirmed Modern Warfare 2 on April 28, 2022, revealing the logo and teasing “The new era of Call of Duty is coming.”
Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope claims to know a lot about both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, recently announcing that the new Warzone map will take heavy inspiration from Medellín in Colombia.
Not long after Modern Warfare 2’s announcement, Hope claimed that “Modern Warfare II will have a firing range.” Players have been begging for a firing range for years, so if true, it’d be an extremely welcome addition.
Can only assume this also will come to Warzone 2. https://t.co/FsYJOo6aIK
While he doesn’t seem to know for sure, he later tweeted: “Can only assume this also will come to Warzone 2.”
Even if it’s not available to free-to-play Warzone 2 players, the weapons may have similar stats across both multiplayer and battle royale, so Modern Warfare 2 owners could still test their BR weapons there.
Modern Warfare 2 hasn’t been officially revealed yet, so take these leaks with the usual grain of salt. We’re likely to know much more about both games in the coming months.

Here’s everything we know about Modern Warfare 2 including its release date, maps, game modes, and platforms.

There’s a ton of anticipation for Modern Warfare 2, and here’s everything that we know about Call of Duty 2022 so far, including the release date, a new mode called DMZ, and the game’s platforms.
Call of Duty fans are looking forward to the release of Modern Warfare 2, and there is a ton of speculation about the 2022 title since the developers have only just officially revealed the title and logo for the new CoD game.
Luckily, we’ve been able to gather details about the Modern Warfare sequel like the release date, new game modes, and platforms, as well as some interesting leaks about the game’s content.
Here’s everything we know about Call of Duty 2022.
Call of Duty is officially heading back to the present day, with the developers officially confirming Modern Warfare 2 to be the 2022 entry in their popular annual gaming franchise.
The developers stated “it should be obvious” that they’re working on the sequel after the huge success of 2019’s Modern Warfare, which has managed to sell over 30 million copies since its release.
On April 28, 2022, developers Infinity Ward also revealed Modern Warfare 2’s official logo. It blends the ‘MW’ of the 2019 title with the iconic green color scheme of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2.
At the time of writing, the developers have not confirmed the exact release date for Modern Warfare 2, but they did state that the game would release sometime in Fall 2022.
This lines up with Activision’s record as most previous titles in this popular franchise were released between October and November, so it makes sense for Call of Duty 2022 to come around the same time.
Thanks to in-game files, we also know that Vanguard and Warzone Pacific could potentially end on a fifth season, as opposed to the traditional sixth. This could have an impact on Modern Warfare 2’s release date, but we will be sure to update this article once we have more concrete information.
According to leaker ‘RalphsValve,’ Modern Warfare 2’s development is a collaborative effort between 11 different developers. Infinity Ward is expected to be the lead studio with Treyarch also helping out.
Here are all the rumored Modern Warfare 2 developers:
After Modern Warfare 2’s official announcement, Infinity Ward also confirmed that the 2022 Call of Duty title will be built on a brand-new engine, which the company has “been working on for years,”
This new engine is meant to improve players’ experience on all platforms, and the developers have also confirmed that they will use it to lay the foundation of a “new Warzone experience” in Warzone 2.
Both leakers RalphsValve and Tom Henderson claim that classic Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps will arrive in CoD 2022.
In a video covering everything known about CoD 2022 so far, Henderson said that these maps have been taken from the scrapped Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, of which only the campaign released.
RalphsValve leaked five maps that players can expect to see in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. These are some of the most popular ones in the entire series and we might see them return.
Here are the returning Modern Warfare 2 maps:
Returning Maps
?Favela
?Terminal
?Highrise
?Shipment
?Quarry
Favela would pit players against each other in enclosed areas while Terminal provided some excellent sniping opportunities to Call of Duty players during long-range combat situations.
Highrise led to tons of 360, no-scope montages and birthed several world-famous CoD clans and Shipment is so popular that it’s currently still featured in titles like Call of Duty: Vanguard.
However, these are currently just leaks, and we might see the addition of entirely different maps in the final game once it arrives.
Call of Duty 2022 will integrate with Warzone in the same way that Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard have, but is expected to bring a brand-new map. However, according to rumors and leaks, there are some key differences to note.
It is being reported that a sequel to Warzone is currently in development. Warzone 2 was first reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier and later supported by well-known industry insider Tom Henderson.
Henderson has called Warzone 2 a “clean slate,” meaning it’s a brand-new game without any content from previous CoD games.
For everything you need to know about a possible Warzone sequel, you can take a look at our Warzone 2 guide where we’ve compiled a list of rumors and leaks associated with the title.
Tom Henderson claims that Modern Warfare 2 will come with a brand-new game mode – DMZ. While we don’t know exactly what the game mode will entail, the leaker described this mode as “MWII’s take on Escape From Tarkov.”
Modern Warfare II's third mode is currently called the DMZ.
It's not entirely clear if that's the codename or not yet, but DMZ is MWII's take on Escape From Tarkov.
Henderson believes the mode will have been in development for over four years by the time Modern Warfare 2 releases, and you’ll drop into several locations and will have to plunder through abandoned homes, buildings, vehicles, crates, and corpses. He also said that the area has been made up of maps from the original MW2 which act as POIs.
From this description, it seems that DMZ will be one of the most grounded game modes in the upcoming title. Hopefully, it will make for an intense experience for Call of Duty 2022 players.
Leaker RalphsValve has also claimed that MW2 will feature a Rainbow Six Siege-inspired mode called Attackers v. Defenders. However, leakers such as Tom Henderson have disputed the claim.
This mode will see players attack and defend objective sites while utilizing “hidden locations, booby traps and cameras.”
Attackers v. Defenders would have a revamped health system, and players are able to assign each of their squad members separate roles such as “Squad Leader.”
Defenders;
? To methodise a plan to slow down, or entirely halt the Attackers; utilising hidden locations, boobytraps and cameras
? Destruction plays a major role – you’ll be able to fortify, and defend the positioned objective.
However, prominent CoD leakers TheMW2Ghost and Tom Henderson claim their sources say “it was a scrapped mode from MW19 and they haven’t heard or seen anything regarding it coming to MW II.”
Henderson did clarify that “It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not coming, but I’m inclined to believe people working on the project/or with very good connections at the studio.”
These two modes are only leaks or rumors at this point, so have yet to be confirmed. We’ll be sure to update this article as soon as we learn some more official information about Modern Warfare 2’s game modes.
Skill-based matchmaking has been one of the most controversial aspects of Call of Duty titles, and a report from CoD leaker ‘RalphsValve’ claims that the developers could be aiming to revise the SBMM to be “less debilitating” in Modern Warfare 2.
According to this leak, the devs aim to make games feel less strict, but Modern Warfare 2 could still keep the controversial feature of disbanding lobbies after each game comes to an end.
Call of Duty leaker ‘TheGhostOfHope’ claims that the Perk system will receive a major change in Modern Warfare 2 that will allow players to choose four Perks rather than the traditional three.
The leaker also claimed that the Last Stand Perk will return, allowing players to be downed with their pistol out before dying. However, it will now act as a Field Upgrade rather than a Perk.
According to Henderson, Modern Warfare 2 will be available on both current-gen and past-generation consoles.
Both Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard are cross-gen Call of Duty titles, and these leaks suggest that Modern Warfare 2 will continue this trend. However, it may be the last one to do so.
“It’s currently believed that this will be the last Call of Duty coming to past generation consoles, but it will ultimately depend on the console market conditions,” Tom Henderson tweeted.

Back in September, individuals on Reddit and Medium blog noticed a back-end server opening into NVIDIA’s GeForce technology site that let them see the games being tested out on their servers.
One of the games by Activision and Infinity Ward was listed as “Project Cortez,” which is a possible codename for Modern Warfare 2. After this, some new potential plot details for Call of Duty 2022 were shared by VGC.
According to the leak, “Modern Warfare’s sequel will include a campaign involving US special forces fighting a covert war against Columbian drug cartels.” This was also backed up by Tom Henderson.
Henderson has also said that the AI will see significant improvements from previous CoD games, where they’ll act realistically to getting shot.
It’s worth keeping in mind that these are currently just leaks, and this information has yet to be verified by the developers themselves. Until they officially announce something, you should take this with a grain of salt.
