A recent God Of War PC mod sees Kratos’s son Atreus face off against one of the worst parts of growing up: a face full of painful-looking acne.
The Norse-based God Of War saga is a coming-of-age story for Kratos’ growing son Atreus, but a new PC mod pits the warrior-in-training against one of the most embarrassing parts of the teenage years: acne. Sony Santa Monica rebooted its signature God Of War franchise to great reception in 2018 with the tale of an older Kratos struggling to raise his son and come to terms with the demons of his past as he roams across the Nine Realms of Norse mythology. God Of War was recently ported to PC last month, allowing gamers who don’t own a PlayStation console the opportunity to experience one of the most critically-acclaimed action games of the previous console era. Reviews for the PC port of God Of War (2018) have been just as positive as they were for the initial PS4 version, with PC gamers enjoying enhanced graphical options that make Kratos’s quest to fulfill his late wife Faye’s dying request all the more real.
While the God Of War PC port doesn’t include official mod support, that hasn’t stopped players with the technical know-how from altering Kratos and Atreus’s first Nordic adventure in several interesting ways – with the developers of Sony Santa Monica even giving their full blessing. Most of these mods are focused on Kratos himself, with some replacing his aged character model with his younger and more volatile self from the original God Of War trilogy and switching out his usually somber dialogue with a barrage of dad jokes that will leave Atreus holding his face in embarrassment.
That might not be the best thing for Atreus’s complexion, as The Gamer reports that a new God Of War PC mod gives Kratos’s teen son a full-blown acne breakout. InspectorXyto, who posted the Atreus Puberty Mod on Nexus Mods last week, states that they researched different types of acne to ensure that poor Atreus experiences the common adolescent skin condition “at its worst.” When a player in the comments section asked why they created this mod, InspectorXyto joked that “we all have been through that” – and gods are no different.
Facial acne and embarrassing dad jokes will be the least of Atreus’s worries in the upcoming God Of War Ragnarök, which is set to launch on both PlayStation consoles later this year and serve as the final chapter in Kratos’s Nordic storyline. As shown in the exciting God Of War Ragnarök trailer during September’s blockbuster PlayStation Showcase livestream, the new game will see Atreus looking to uncover the truth behind an ancient prophecy that foretells the end of the world, along with his supposed role in it as the legendary trickster god Loki. Meanwhile, Kratos will seek the help of the Nordic God Of War Tyr and battle against even more mythical creatures and deities – including his long-awaited and previously hinted-at confrontation with Thor.
In the meantime, it seems that not even Atreus’s inherited divine power can overcome the trials and tribulations of puberty, including a painful-looking face full of acne. The young hunter has learned many skills from his experienced father Kratos, so hopefully the titular God Of War has imparted on his son the virtues of proper skincare and pimple-popping procedure ahead of his next journey across the lands of Nordic mythology.
