Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation is now offering esports multiplayer video gaming at the Northdale Recreation Center, 15550 Spring Pine Drive, in Tampa.
The county’s new esports program is designed to create a fun, competitive experience while promoting inclusion and a sense of community for participants of all ages.
At Northdale Recreation Center, participants play esports in a dedicated gaming room with six 65-inch televisions and a dozen gaming chairs. Games and controllers are provided, including popular titles such as Fortnite, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, Mario Kart, and others.
Games can be played with single players or teams, and can include online participants from other locations and opportunities to participate in tournaments. The games’ audio and chat functions are disabled, to maintain a positive environment for player. Participation is free.

The Starkey Ranch Theatre Library Cultural Center, 12118 Lake Blanche Drive in Odessa, will host a new Museum + Art Series. In the series, participants can explore the world of Pablo Picasso through hands-on art workshops in collaboration with the Dali Museum’s newest exhibition, “Picasso and the Allure of the South.” There will be a children’s workshop on Feb. 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., where kids (ages 9 and older) can learn about Picasso’s portraits and style, and then create a pin using oven-bake clay. The pin can be used for a backpack or lanyard. All supplies are included. An adult workshop is scheduled for Feb. 2 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, for ages 16 and older.
