The Epic Games Store gives away a new free game while confirming what users will be able to claim for their libraries next week.
Every Thursday at 10am CT, Epic Games Store users know it's time to load up the launcher and claim the latest free game. Last week's Epic Games Store free game was the third-person action mecha game Daemon x Machina, which has now been replaced by Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is free for Epic Games Store users to claim from now until Thursday, February 10 at 10am CT. It's a sequel to the original Yooka-Laylee game, but instead of featuring 3D platforming, it focuses on 2D platforming gameplay mixed with overworld exploration. Compared to the original game, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release, with many praising it for its challenging difficulty and sense of humor.
Whenever the Epic Games Store releases a new free game, it also gives fans a look at what next week's free game offering will be. So while fans are jumping into the Epic Games Store launcher to claim Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair for their digital libraries, they can also see what's in store for them starting February 10.
On February 10 at 10am CT, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be removed from the Epic Games Store free games lineup and replaced with Windbound. Windbound combines survival game mechanics with a narrative focus, and could very well appeal to fans who like those kinds of games. However, it should be noted that Windbound earned mixed reviews at the time of its release.
Even though Windbound isn't exactly a critical darling, there may still be more Epic Games Store users interested in it than Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. While Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair has higher review scores than Windbound, it's actually a repeat game that's already been given away for free. As some may recall, the Epic Games Store 12 Days of Free Games event from 2019 featured Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair as one of the offerings.
Whatever the case may be, Epic Games Store users can claim Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair now if they didn't do so when it was originally given away, and they can claim Windbound next week. Once they're able to claim Windbound, Epic Games Store users will have the chance to see what the February 17 to February 24 free game will be.
A leak reports that Respawn, the developer of Apex Legends, has told press that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game is coming soon.
