Paradox Interactive has revealed that the DLC content for Crusader Kings 3 will launch on PC first, with console releases happening at a later date. The highly-regarded latest addition to the beloved strategy franchise is making its console debut later this year, giving new-gen console owners a taste of the action.
The Crusader Kings series is no stranger to DLC. Crusader Kings 2 added a paid subscription service for DLC at a time when Crusader Kings 3 was already on the market. This is because the game has a massive amount of DLC content, which adds a number of different factions and mechanics to the game. Crusader Kings 3 launched at the end of 2020, so it hasn’t had much time to accrue DLC of its own. To date, the game only has the Northern Lords flavor pack, which adds Norse-themed content and options to the experience.

Crusader Kings 3 is soon coming to consoles, but new players won’t have access to the extra DLC content that is available to PC players. According to Paradox Interactive in a recent press event for the game, the DLC for Crusader Kings 3 will launch on PC first and will arrive on consoles at an unspecified date after Crusader Kings 3 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in March. Paradox Interactive hopes to eventually have simultaneous DLC releases on all platforms in the future.
Crusader Kings 3 is set to receive a huge expansion with the first major DLC content release set for February 8. The Royal Court DLC for Crusader Kings 3 will add a throne room that can be used to hold court and deal with petitioners. The throne room can also display trophies and other symbols of grandeur, which will attract important people to the realm. The Royal Court DLC will also change the culture system, allowing players to create their own hybrid cultures in order to suit the needs of their domain.
Paradox’s Crusader Kings 3 is a highly-acclaimed game and it has a chance of finding an audience among console fans. It’s possible that the developers want to see the reaction to the game on consoles before committing to developing more content for those versions of the game. The strategy genre has traditionally succeeded on PC with mouse and keyboard players, rather than on consoles with controllers. If the game struggles to find an audience, then there won’t be an incentive to produce DLC, especially if it will slow the production of DLC for the version of the game on the platform where it’s popular.
