BELLWOOD — Bellwood-Antis School District will be adding esports as an intramural program.
“Even as an intramural starting point, it would be a great place for our students to acquire the proper skills,” said District Technology Coordinator Mike Lingenfelter.
Pennsylvania already has an esports league. The program would be offered for grades 3-12.
Lingenfelter also presented his technology budget at the committee of the whole meeting Tuesday.
The budget for the 2022-23 school year includes an additional $5,000 to purchase hardware and software needed to get the esports program started, according to Lingenfelter.
Lingenfelter also said a computer lab at the middle school will be decommissioned, and two computer labs at the high school will get new computers at an estimated cost of $45,000.
The district will also add Swank K-12 streaming service for $1,500, which will replace the need to use services such as Netflix and Hulu.
The budget also includes the cost of replacing high school faculty and staff laptops, estimated at $55,000.
In other matters, a 5 cent increase is planned for elementary and secondary school lunch prices according to kitchen aide Jen Weaver.
The new school lunch prices for next year will be $2.30 for elementary and $2.40 for secondary.
Bellwood-Antis will have its next meeting on April 12.
