Ask the PC Doctor: Should I 'Hide my email'? – Athol Daily News

Dear PC Doctor: When I go to sign in to anything on my computer, I get this message: “Hide my email. Create a unique, random address that forwards to your inbox.” Should I be doing this? What is the advantage? It sounds confusing to have a bunch of random email addresses coming to my inbox.
— Thanks, Not Hiding Yet
Dear Not Hiding Yet:
Here’s what Apple Support says about “hide my email.”
Hide My Email is a service that lets you keep your personal email address private when you create a new account with an app, sign up for a newsletter, or send an email to someone you don’t know well. The main benefit would be keeping your personal email address separate from these interactions.
You can use Hide My Email with Sign in with Apple, which lets you create an account using a randomly-generated email address directly within a supported third-party app or website or with iCloud+, which lets you generate as many random email addresses as you need.
Hide My Email gives you unique, random email addresses that automatically forward to your personal inbox. You can read and respond directly to emails sent to these addresses and your personal email address is kept private.
I hope this helps!
Until next time, Happy Computing!
