Xiaomi has announced early sales figures for the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, a smartphone it launched and started selling yesterday. To recap, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition starts at CNY 3,299 (~US$520) but rises to CNY 3,899 (~US$615) with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Additionally, the company offers a 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage model for CNY 3,499 (~US$550). In comparison, the entry-level model makes do with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
According to Xiaomi, it grossed CNY 280 million (~US$44.18 million) during the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition’s first flash sale period. Supposedly, it only took people one minute to exhaust all Xiaomi’s stock. However, the company has not revealed how many units it made available to pre-order.
Assuming everyone purchased the entry-level model, Xiaomi only listed just under 85,000 units. On the other hand, had Xiaomi just sold the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition’s most expensive version, it would have included approximately 72,000 handsets in its flash sale. Either way, Xiaomi did not even bring 100,000 units to market, so it is no surprise that the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition sold out so quickly.
The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is Xiaomi’s third smartphone with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Also, the handset has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display that supports a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 4,700 mAh battery split between two cells and three rear-facing cameras. Xiaomi has not launched the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition globally, nor is it expected to. Instead, certifications suggest that Xiaomi will launch the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition globally as the POCO F4 GT, building off the India-exclusive POCO F3 GT.
