UPDATED Jan. 25, 2022:
Excel Esports have acquired Mikyx from G2 Esports and replaced starting support Henk «Advienne» Reijenga, which means that G2 has now moved every single contract they placed on buyout following the 2021 season.

UPDATE Jan. 11, 2022:
Of the five contracts placed on buyout by G2 Esports this off-season, four were acquired by other organizations. Wunder is the new starting top laner for Fnatic, Rekkles was acquired by Karmine Corp after multiple reductions to his initial buyout price. Grabbz is the new head coach for Team BDS, and earlier today, Nelson was signed by Excel Esports.

Only Mikyx was unable to find a new home, which Carlos «ocelote» Rodríguez Santiago said happened despite multiple reductions to Mikyx’s original buyout price of $1.5 million, which the CEO and founder of G2 Esports had previously revealed was the initial buyout price for both Mikyx and Rekkles.

Mikyx brought a supposed miscommunication in off-season negotiations to a Twitter thread before ocelote stated that G2 had been transparent with the player and his representation for the entirety of the off-season.

Original story:

After missing the League of Legends World Championship for the first time in organizational history, G2 Esports has confirmed it is making sweeping changes to its League of Legends European Championship roster before the start of 2022. The announcement was made by G2 Esports owner Carlos «ocelote» Rodríguez Santiago in a video via his Twitter account, which stated that multiple members of the G2 squad were not only benched, but on the chopping block.

Reports have pointed towards G2 Esports being the busiest team of the offseason so far after missing Worlds for the first time this season.

Based on reports from multiple sources, it looked as if the only untouchables on the team were jungler Marcin «Jankos» Jankowski and mid laner Rasmus «Caps» Winther.

This has been confirmed by ocelote in the video above, stating that top laner Martin «Wunder» Hansen, AD carry Martin «Rekkles» Larson, support Mihael «Mikyx» Mehle, head coach Fabian «GrabbZ» Lohmann and strategic coach Sng «Nelson» Yi-Wei have been benched and are on the trading block.

It looks as if G2 Esports is making sweeping changes to rebuild around the jungle-mid batter of Jankos and Caps and return the organization to the level of its peak performance in 2019. In the entirety of G2’s 2019-2021, the only player changed within that time was Luka «Perkz» Perkovi?, who was transferred to Cloud9 at the end of 2020 following the bot laner’s desire to return to his position of origin in the mid lane.  Rekkles was signed in Perkz’s place for the 2021 season.

Nelson «Nelson» Sng was signed by G2 Esports following the team’s failure to qualify for the finals of the 2021 LEC Summer Playoffs. Sng was brought in to establish some convention to a previously intuition-run G2 roster, but with long-tenured head coach GrabbZ on the way out, it looks like G2 would rather rebuild its coaching staff from scratch alongside the roster it will be rebuilding around Jankos and Caps.
