NZXT announces its latest entry-level mechanical keyboard, the NZXT FUNCTION which features many customization options including per-key RGB
NZXT is perhaps best known amongst PC builders and gamers for its extensive range of popular PC components like the NZXT Cyberpunk 2077 case and a deep custom PC building service. The brand has also entered the peripheral market too, with products such as the NZXT Capsule microphone.
Now, NZXT is set to release its latest keyboard and mouse, the NZXT FUNCTION keyboard and the NZXT Life mouse. The NZXT FUNCTION keyboard comes in a variety of styles and offers the level of customization that the brand has become known for.

The NZXT FUNCTION keyboard is aimed at users who are considering entry-level mechanical keyboards with many customization options to suit a variety of needs. The keyboard features a low-profile chassis design with a durable aluminum top plate that can withstand any bumps and knocks, as well as featuring many extra touches such as a volume roller, mute button, brightness controls, and the ability to lock the Windows key on the left side of the keyboard.
To help further customize the NZXT FUNCTION keyboard, users will tap into the NZXT CAM software to enable RGB, which can be altered on a per-key basis, as well as program macros and key remapping. Players will be able to see the RGB lights thanks to the shine-through ABS keycaps that come as standard.
When it comes to mechanical keyboards, the switches are one of the most important aspects, with each having its own pros and cons such as red typically being preferred by gamers and blue being good for typing. Players that purchase the keyboard directly from NZXT will be able to choose from a variety of switches, including Gateron Red, Gateron Blue, Gateron Brown, Gateron Silent Black Ink V2 60g (linear), and Gateron Aliaz Silent 60g (tactile). The retail version of the keyboard will come fitted with the Gateron Red switches, but the good news is that they can easily be swapped for other options.
The NZXT Function keyboard comes in three different sizes, 60% (MiniTkl) which is very compact for smaller desks and preferred by competitive gamers; 80% (Tenkeyless), which features a regular-sized keyboard but without the number pad on the right-hand side; and Full Size with numpad and top row. Both the Full size and Tenkeyless Function keyboards come with magnetically detachable wrist rests.
Here are the retail prices of each of the NZXT FUNCTION keyboards:
The new and innovative MiniTKL compact form factor retains all the keys of a Tenkeyless keyboard and adapts them to the smallest package possible while adding an F13 key and a dedicated macro key. Unique to compact keyboard form factors, all keys remain standard, and any Tenkeyless keycap set is compatible with this new design.
Much like NZXT BLD for PC builds, the company offers a suite of customization options for Function. Users can jump onto NZXT's website and pick the model they want, the switches, and even select different keycaps for specific keys. It's all very intuitive and ensures that users will get exactly the keyboard they want.
One of the most interesting aspects of Function is its integration with the NZXT CAM software. Through CAM, the user can choose from numerous premade lighting profiles, program macros and store them on one of four on-board profiles, or remap keys entirely.
A more unique feature of the NZXT CAM software is that it allows the user to create their own RGB theme with each key being customizable. This opens up a lot of possibilities for some unique profiles, like customizing a player's main keybinds to glow a different color
The keyboard also comes with a detachable USB-C cable which means it can be transported between systems easily, and users can purchase USB-C cables in a variety of colors from NZXT too including yellow, purple, blue, red, and cyan with each cable costing $9.99.
NZXT might be best known for its PC builds, but Function shows that it has taken lessons learned from its customers and crafted a peripheral that meets a variety of needs. From the switches, to the RGB, to the three different form factors, NZXT Function has an option for nearly every PC gamer out there.
