When one hears about video games, the first thing that crosses your mind is an adrenaline rush and a way of getting entertained. However, there is more to it than what meets the eye. Today, the gaming industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry that has tremendous growth opportunities and potentially rewarding career options. Over the past few years, we have seen how the landscape of work has changed.
While earlier, it was believed that only individuals with a fine degree could afford a luxury lifestyle, with time, some out-of-the-box career fields which do not require fancy degrees have also become quite popular in the GEN Y as well as GEN Z.
The reason is simple. It’s been quite a while since people have started taking the mantra, “If you are good at something, never do it for free” seriously.
One such unique career option that does not require you to have a Master’s or even a high school certificate but surely demands you to be in love with games is Live streaming.
For those who are adept at content creation and are confident enough to broadcast their gaming skills for the world to tune in, a video game streamer is the best career option. However, taking the steps at the right time is relevant in streaming jobs too, just like other jobs.
A career as a streamer can be extremely challenging for aspirants. However, this career path is potentially rewarding for those who manage to make things right. There are many niche platforms built keeping in mind the gaming market which offers a stage for live streaming to amateurs as well as professionals.
When it comes to the worthiness of this career path, it all varies from individual to individual. Some professional streamers, let’s consider Pokimane, are making around sixty-six thousand dollars per month with 9.1 million followers. But, on the flip side, more than 50 percent of streamers in the world struggle to get even a single view of their stream.
It all depends on how you start your journey. To make big in the streaming industry, the first few months or, in some cases, years require being extremely patient and focused, which some amateurs somehow failed to do. However, for those who reach that place where they can let their imagination run free, and share their skills with the rest of the world, everything seems worth it.
Of course, the worthiness also depends on being able to afford a lavish lifestyle. Well, one can even capitalize on this streaming career and make good money through Fan Tipping, Sponsorships, and Advertising by taking wise steps.
Most people think they only need to be addicted to video games to build a career in the game streaming industry. However, in reality, it highly depends on your ability to create engaging content that people really want to see.
One thing that matters most in creating your career as a professional steamer is the ability to stand out in order to garner an audience. One should be extremely tenacious, committed, and passionate about gaming to make streaming a rewarding career of their life.
To get started, one has to find their genre. Hopping around to different styles of playing and different genres of games at the beginning of their career might not be a great idea. The audience expects some kind of familiarity and they will tune in whenever you go live, only if they have something to expect.
The next step would be finding that oomph factor. There are thousands of professional streamers who are broadcasting similar content. For someone to be successful, they don’t necessarily need to be a pro at gaming. They just have to find a way to make their channel stick out among the rest, either through their improv skills or way of playing. They can choose any angle that can draw attention.
Before moving forward towards pursuing your streaming dream full-time, you will also have to gather the right gears. Just a few essentials, such as a basic streaming PC, a capture device, a Webcam, and streaming software could work for you in the beginning. You can always upgrade as you move forward.
The next thing you need is confidence. I have met so many millennials who are willing to do the hard work but are afraid of the backlash from haters and too embarrassed to promote themselves in front of their acquaintances. It’s imperative to be confident about one’s skills and focus on building your own name in order to succeed.
The last step would be considering streaming as a career and not a hobby. The flourishing of this career will demand time, investment, and sacrifice. One has to adapt to new things and be persistent enough to keep going even when your game plan is not working out.
To sum up, a career as a streamer can be rewarding as well as fun if pursued dedicatedly. However, for one to succeed, one has to be prepared for the long road ahead and should be committed to making it happen, even if that includes adapting to new things.
The reality is when I’m writing this, a new advancement in technology is shifting the focus of the targeted audience. But if one has that X factor that can separate them from other streamers and keep their audience engaged, then they can surely make it big.
