AMD is reportedly working on a new graphics card, according to Twitter leaker Komachi Ensaka. The Radeon RX 6300 will succeed the Radeon RX 5300 as an entry-level gaming card, a much-needed relief for the GPU-starved masses. However, buying one might be a bit cumbersome.
The leaker speculates that the AMD Radeon RX 6300 could be an OEM-only card, meaning it will not be sold at retail, and one will be forced to buy pre-built PCs for a chance to get one. Its predecessor was one of the few US$150 graphics cards on the market, and it doesn’t look like there will be a modern-day equivalent this time around.
It is hard to speculate what hardware AMD could pack in the Radeon RX 6300. 4 GB of VRAM (on a 64-bit bus) is almost certianly a given, as anything lower would render the graphics card dead on arrival. The CU count will likely remain the same as the Radeon RX 6400 (12 CUs), but the base and boost clocks could be nerfed.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Radeon RX 6300 (and even the RX 6400) performs in the real world, especially in the face of the Radeon RX 6500 XT’s lacklustre showing. They should be fine as long as they can run e-sports games at respectable framerates, as they’re not designed for anything else.
